Band-O-Week: Lykke Li

Ooooh! Lykke! You have made these last couple weeks so upbeat and wonderful for me! It all started when I was told to visit your stage at Lollapalooza. There, I stood and watched you in your black cape, bright blonde hair and perfect voice jumping around on the stage like a little bean. Not only entertained, but also extremely impressed by your different styles and sounds coming from not only you - but the band as well. Overall, her love of the swagger and the female swarminess that a select few women can pull off shows through her tunes. Coupled with an innocent sweetness, you've got yourself a great ride.

Upon getting your album and getting through the first...strange track I was immediately drawn to "Little Bit" -- a gnome song of love. When I sing along, it's like I'm hiding behind a tree and my kindergarden crush is trying to find me and plant a wet one on my cheek.

Moving on a couple years later, it seems that kindergarden crush has turned into a big jerk by 8th grade and there you are, "Breaking It Up" - an angry empowering ballad that is the exact opposite, but just as enjoyable. Something you'd sing in your underwear with a bottle of wine in your hand doubling as a microphone. Well, at least that's what I do.

"Let it Fall" is also an honerable mention on the album, a certain swagger and sway attaches itsself to this one and recommended with Gimlets.
