Chicago - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants
My friend turned to me and said, "I feel like I'm in my grandpa's basement and it's 1985." This, my friends, is exactly what it feels like in the Brauhaus...if your grandpa was a stout bavarian with a fondness for pork products and couldn't eat breakfast withouth a side of potatoes. German food, in general, is heavy, starchy, buttery, and overall a heart attack on a plate...but man-o-man if I'm gonna hit the big one, I would definitely prefer it to be over a plate of Wienerschnitzel with Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes) than a carrot stick.
I had the Gebackene Ente which was amazing, never had something fried like this. Most of the others at the table got a sausage set with a side and there were no complaints. Of course, the Bretzel (pretzel) was huge and amazing and the beer went perfectly with it.
Live music pretty much every night (keyboard and accordian!) and a great place to stop in if you're feeling a little "Heimweh" for Germany!
