So, Cut Copy and Crystal Castles met in a bar one night. One thing let to another, there was some Jameson and luckily...Crystal Castles lived just around the corner. They made drunk sloppy love all night and Cut Copy left the next morning, never to talk to Crystal Castles again. She was really sad. Then, nine months later this baby was born...named Discovery.
Granted, neither one of these bands have anything to do with Discovery, but damnit it sounds like the love-child of the two above. Upon first listen, the over-synth and electronic harpsichord might be a tad much (influence: probably the half that is Vampire Weekend's) but just please, give it another shot...and another shot. Much like the Jameson you'll forget that initial bitterness and get sucked in. The debut album, "LP" takes you on this emotional wave that is outstanding.
The songs are filled with bittersweet lyrics about love and longing, wandering, dancing and a splash of funness with their excellent and brilliant use of anything Moog, 808 or whatever it is they use to churn out the excellentness. Personal favorite is "Can you discover?" - a longing song of intense crush followed by "Swing Tree". Makes me think of someone coming by with a bouquet of daisies and buying me ice cream. Their red0 of Jackson Five's "I want you back" is unfathomable and a proper homage to the passing of Mr. MJ.
Put it on loud. Dance in your underwear. Let it out.
