It's embarrassing when you've been living in the city for quite some time and haven't been to this place, such was me and had a little chip on my shoulder that I finally made it here. I've heard the name a million times and once I walked in I thought, "Only in Chicago." Yeah, it's Cajun Cuisine -- but with a Chicago old-style diner feel that makes it super cozy.
Showed up at lunchtime and the place was slammed, even so the service was super fast and an expert on our varying table definitions of "spiciness". Only sampled the green Tobasco because I'm a complete hot sauce wossy, but even so the Gumbo and Jambalaya were perfect as so. Had a nibble of the cheese grits with shrimp, not something that necessarily sounds appetizing but definitely a melt-in-your-mouth experience. Crab cakes weren't especially a fav.
Recommend this place for a little piece of nostalgia on your lunch break, a quick bite after work or visitors from out of town (and if you take them to Grand Lux one more time you're going to slit your wrists).
