Qype: Half Shell in Chicago

Chicago - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants - Seafood

I have lived down the street from this place for the past 6 years and not once did I actually check it out. I guess it was an aversion to the basement vibe, thinking it might be dirty or not very good.

A friend convinced me to check it out and man....was I wow'd. First time there I sat at the bar and downed a couple of Budweisers while this GIANT platter of crab legs was plopped down in front of us. Pretty much a view of heaven in my book.

Headed back again a couple weeks later and was happy that my initial impressions had not changed - crab was excellent, super fresh and steamed to perfection. Drawn butter, fantastic, and I love the touch of fries and garlic toast under the legs. Let's not forget the sucker they plop in the middle (I'd love to know the story behind that one...) for dessert.

Definitely worth checking out, even if you don't live in the 'hood. Fun place to take folks visiting chicago or even a fun, but not fancy bite on the weekend.

Check out my review of Half Shell - I am superchristine - on Qype
